Re: Cheating: What it is, and why you shouldn't do it

Hi, I'm quite new to apterous, as is my son. We sometimes play each other, with him on the PC upstairs and me on the laptop downstairs. Is this considered cheating? If it is, we are not very good at cheating as can be seen from our ratings! Not sure how you could even consider the possibility that ...

Champions: Chelsea Runners-up: Liverpool Relegated: Portsmouth, Hull City and Birmingham. Although Burnley won't be threatening the top 8 this season it might be wise not to write us off too quickly. For those that weren't paying attention last season.... Chelsea - drew 1 (won on pens), Arsenal - wo...

I agree it's rather pointless unless you want to actively take part in the social events, tournaments, special interest groups etc, although you could argue it has (perhaps vague) similarities with apterous if you wanted to. I joined in 1991, after taking the test purely for morale boosting after dr...

Re: Cheating: What it is, and why you shouldn't do it

I've thought for a while that there should be some kind of register of those confirmed as cheats. That way you'd know who to avoid and if I'd played someone who later transpired to be a cheat it would be nice to know. In the last few days I've seen rumours about several players (I won't name them as...

If your game freezes and you have to leave the site will the Java console retain the relevant info?
If so I'll try it next time.

I wasn't being critical btw, was just curious as to which end causes it if not both. As Rob said at the outset things are much much better now.

I've never fully understood whether the freezes are just a problem with Apterous or whether the user's pc can also contribute. In most of my own freezes I tend to get an inkling that it's about to happen before my opponent does, which leads me to think my machine might be more susceptible to it than...

3 points for an outright win, 0 for a loss.
2 for a win on tie-break, 1 for a loss on a tie break.
Points scored f/a to split equal league points.

That would be my suggestion.

A couple of things that have been on my mind a little while, and a third that reared up tonight. 1) When playing a numbers attack and the scores are tied, you then have a conundrum to determine the winner. For me this doesn't fit with the format as it would with a letters attack or 15 rounder as its...

If you had the typo scenario in a normal round then you have no discretion - you would simply gain the points if you had the same word typed correctly. Same with the numbers - if its an easy solution but one player mis-clicks it's unfortunate but there can be no compensation. Therefore I agree with ...

It still doesn't explain why Callum played games under the Joe Blogs (sic) moniker, especially when he knew full well what was going on.

The name itself was a giveaway that something was fake, and anyone playing Joe Blogs (sic) should have realised this, but it's still more than a little underhand.
