Re: Handheld game from 2000

I have this game too. I can't believe it's so old! The review is really quite accurate- the game is pretty poor imho. One other point I would add to the criticisms mentioned is that the letters rounds almost always produce really horrible selections- significantly worse than on the show. The letter ...

Re: Spoilers for Wednesday 4th February 2009

I don't know the exact figures, but it seemed like there were very few round today where both contestants scored? Anyone know what the record for that is? (I guess excluding one-sided games would be better, and yes I am thinking of DoD when I say that!)

Re: Shuffling

Also, could someone please enlighten me as to the signifance of the letters DXTSC and AIO? I'm assuming here but it's probably a reference to Simon Myer's favourite word? Or perhaps he's referring to a show he appeared on where those letters come out. DOXASTIC Ah thanks for that. I guessed it might...

Re: Shuffling

Now that the CofC is over, does anyone know how many nines there were in total over the 3 weeks? And how this compares to an 'average' 3 weeks? My point is that if the champions have been getting fewer nines, that would seem to indicate some different shuffling. (Arguably, if the champions are only ...

Re: Series 60 Grand Final

I have nothing against Kirk, but I can't see how it can be a good thing that everyone is wishing for an incredibly one-sided final? Surely a tight contest that could go either way (a la Mubeen-Reams last time) is more watchable? Granted, it is entertaining to see players get amazingly long words. Bu...

Re: What is it like to be on countdown?

Answers to what? You don't know what the letters will be. And it should be fairly obvious if the ruler has a built-in anagram solver or calculator. Having said that, I'm curious as to what use a ruler could be... Well one example would be having a tiny list of, say, sevens which are never the max, ...

Re: What is it like to be on countdown?

Are you allowed to take your own paper, pens, etc? Or for instance, a ruler? (Believe it or not I find a ruler quite handy) I can't see why not. Just in case you've got all the answers written down already in invisible ink/inside the pen barrel/on the ruler markings. Answers to what? You don't know...

Unpieces is not a word is it? (round 6 I think). It sounds like it should be, but maybe I'm confusing it with something else. No idea what, mind you. Possibly you're thinking of UNPICKS. Possibly. I guess a detective is more likely to unpick evidence than unpiece it... 7 CofC XIII games have gone t...

Is 'batters' really a seven that is never the max? Tabarets doesn't appear on the stemmer. So does that mean the stemmer is wrong, or the Wiki?

Would 'marmites' have been allowed in the Marmoset round? I was under the impression that the container pictured on the front of a jar of that foodstuff is actually called a marmite, though I could be wrong.

Re: How ratings work

How do the ratings reflect ability on the Show?
Would a rating of 2000+ reflect a series winner, perhaps, and a 1700+ an octochamp, or am I way off the mark? Or is there no correlation at all because there are some people who find apterous much much easier/ harder than the actual show?

I believe the most Southernly point is the Lizard, and the Western point is Land's End- therefore both in Cornwall.

My instinct would also be that it would be important to maximise the number of ways in which common sequences of letters could be achieved. That is, having I,N,G on different dice several times, as well as C-K (since the K is there, we may as well try to make use of it). So as a quick first attempt,...
