Re: Tuesday 22nd March 2016 (Series 74, Prelim 38)

I'm happy to take it on for a while. To be honest, I don't know how much longer my Countdown obsession will last; now the series finals are recorded and that focus has abruptly been taken away, I'm finding it difficult to let go but at some point I imagine other things will start to become more impo...

Tuesday 22nd March 2016 (Series 74, Prelim 38)

It's my recap debut. Please be nice. Countdown recap for Tuesday 22 March 2016. C1: Champion Conrad Teixeira (6 wins, 600 points.) An apterite and pharmaceutical salesman from Manchester. C2: Challenger Paul Bloom, an estate agent from Radlett. Loves football, theatre and talks to Nick about America...

OK. I'll get onto that, probably on Thursday.

One thing that occurs to me is that writing the recap involves duplication of effort: you could generate most of a recap from the game data used by the game page on the Countdown wiki.

Re: Where have all the recaps gone?

I could probably do the odd recap although only for shows that are still on 4OD and for today onwards as I've deleted the rest from my Humax. If you could do some of the Tuesday recaps, that would be great, Tim. Are you familiar with how the recap writer works?? No, but I'm sure I can work it out. ...

Tiny error, ages after the fact: Rachel's solution in round 3 must have been ((6*2)+25)*(9*3)-1 rather than ((6*3)+25)*(9*3)-1.

I'm running London Marathon in two weeks and then will be having a go at improving on 17:45 by the end of summer. I'm not convinced I'll find an extra 17 seconds though.

I don't think so. There have certainly been much smugger people on the show who have also done much less well.

Re: Welcome! - Post here first

With common 7s and 8s that you regularly spot (particularly ones that an average player might spot), use the 'Stemmer' tool on Apterous and note down any useful-looking stems. I mean, it's all well and good spotting RATIONS, but if there's a W in the selection then you can have WAITRONS, which woul...

I got AGAINSTER in round 13 as a direct result of learning the stems of ANGRIEST, as recommended to me on here by Jen Steadman. Thanks, Jen.

Re: Welcome! - Post here first

I know, I watched Matthew's preliminaries and the series finals. My numbers skills were below par, and I said ‘probably’, because the finding of a 9 letter word, could completely metamorphosize the outcome of a round. Apologies, if my original post was unintentionally written ambiguously. I don't t...

Re: Spoilers for Thursday March 3rd 2016 (Series 74 Prelim 29)

Dunno where to mention this. Hopefully someone will correct me.

The game summary on the Apterous wiki has a slight error: in round 4, Paul declared BALDIER rather than BALDIES (which would have been allowed).

Re: Electronic music

One of the things apart from Countdown that I am really into is music. Though I could listen to most types of music (apart from some cheesy mainstream tracks), I particularly love electronic music. I particularly love House, Techno and some DnB. I regularly listen to radio shows and mixtapes with t...

Re: Spoilers For Monday February 22nd 2016

Fun fact: If Paul completes an octorun here, then, only one month into the series prelims, he is already guaranteed to qualify for the finals. Also, he is currently on track to achieve an octototal over one thousand. Not sure why I didn't put that one first. I think that is only true assuming his o...

Re: Welcome! - Post here first

hi Tim If you'r eplaying on Apterous, with 30 second rounds, why not write the latters in your preferred 3x3 grid anyway? You should have 5 or 6 of the letters on paper before the time starts, then you're only investing 5 second maybe in getting the others down, if that's what you're more comfortab...

Hi Tim. Great to have you on board and welcome to the forum and apterous. :) In answer to your question about improving, my only suggestion is to keep on practising on apterous as much as possible. It is perfectly possible that with a lot of practise you could make a big impact on the Quarter Final...

Re: Welcome! - Post here first

Hi. I'm a recent contestant and highly fortunate octochamp on the TV show and occasional apterite. I also do other things but they're less likely to crop up on a Countdown forum. I'm currently trying to improve my game in the most time-efficient way possible in time for the finals of series 74, for ...

Re: Spoilers For Monday January 25th 2016

I think the second 4-large pick was a mistake as he had a decent lead at the time. It very nearly cost him. I disagree. I was always backing myself on 4-large and adding 10 points to my lead at that stage, which nearly happened, would have made it difficult for Nick to come back from. I was very ne...

Re: CO:parkrun Recaps

In the last preliminary game of last series, it was mentioned that the challenger Tim Down was a keen runner. He also appears to be on Apterous . And if this is also him then he has a parkrun PB of 17:45! Is this enough evidence to put him on the list? That is indeed me on both counts. Feel free to...
