I think you're reading too much into the joke post with Dinos. Oubliette was for a C of C, so its to be expected that harder words will come up. The normal series finals conundrums are tougher yes, but nothing so out of the ordinary as to be considered impossible.

I agree. The numbers of wins mark the acheivement, not piffly statistics about overall scores. It's kind of pissing on people's bonfires really by banging on about it. It started with Jeffrey Burgin last year and now it's come back again. Grow up.

I don't see the harm in allowing people to use their own rules. Just not sure how this translates into a new 'version' of the game. You can play the proper names rule with any old Scrabble set.
In any case, it's good publicity for the game itself, which must be suffering in terms of sales these days.
