I even found a reggae copy of the Countdown music played on steel drums.

I'll upload some stuff over the coming days, the majority of which has never been seen before.

Re: Getting back on for a second go
Some things to consider. Not every returnee has been honest when asked on the application form about 'previous TV appearances'. We have a changing research team who don't know the past contestants in the same way i do, so it's inevitable that some will slip through the net. We've even had people use...

Smithers is Montgomery Burns' "assistant". Suuuuure. Waylon Joseph Smithers, Jr. (better known as "Mr. Smithers", "Waylon Smithers" or simply "Smithers") (born December 25, 1954 in 1989; 1987 in 2022) is a recurring character on The Simpsons. He is also a min...

I disagree. The point values have not become any less wrong. You have to fine-tune your strategy etc etc etc So you still think Alfred Butts would have given X an 8pt value had he seen the CSW word list today? It's playable with 42 vowel tiles as a 2-letter word, so it's never in a million years go...

Re: Countdown adjudication dictionary
I think this is a poor take on Scrabble. I'm on about the game itself, not the dictionary. You say Scrabble has evolved, but then go on to talk about things that have nothing to do with Scrabble (the game), evolving. The point values for the X J Q Z are wrong. Alfred Butts created the game without ...

Not disliked by me. The game in itself is okay (although i wonder if having 9 of the vowel 'I' in the bag isn't a bit extreme), but the scoring is dated IMO.Marc Meakin wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 9:31 am Is there a genuine dislike of Scrabble on this community?

Re: Countdown adjudication dictionary
I think that’s a poor decision from OUP, though, even just from a historical standpoint. They should print a paper dictionary every 10-15 years or so for time capsule reasons, basically. People are crying out for eco-friendly this and that, no paper, less carbon emissions, there's the issue of tran...

My own gripe with Oxford is the number of non-common non-ODE3 words which a pleb like me could hardly be expected to know. Re: Countdown adjudication dictionary
I suggest that Countdown should get as many different print dictionaries as they can lay their hands on, and pick a different one at random for each show. This would make no difference whatever to 90% of contestants and 99% of viewers, but it would make the programme rather more fun to watch. 100% ...

OUP have said these words and others haven't been 'removed' as such - there's a software bug that is preventing them from showing. They're still in the database and they're working on the technical side to fix things. We had to disallow PEATIEST recently and after raising a query, the glitch was dis...
