Can't help but think the challenger through the game away today after having a steady lead. After losing his >10 point lead he just seemed to collapse. John does appear to be noticeably weaker than at the start, though this could just be down to nerves/tiredness. I still think he's almost certainly ...

If a non apterite can ever win a series, I reckon today's contestant is one of the best shots assuming he doesn't use a pseudonym....

Can't find anyone by that name on apterous, though with his level of ability I strongly suspect he uses a pseudo.

Re: Will an 'ordinary' person ever win a series again?
Possibly not, or at least not without some fairly unlikely circumstances. For a non apterite to win a series they'd have to either be in a very weak series or have some efficient training mechanism that wasn't apterous (eg Julian Fell studied the dictionary and used the handheld Countdown game). One...

I think if he'd got an A or I for the 8th letter he would have done. I agree about SOLARIZED too.
Also, r13 is probably the most welcome an errant Q has ever been for Stephen, since the only way for Annie to win was to beat Stephen with a 9, the nums and 2 conundrums.

PENITUDE as well in that round. Had AGONALS too as a beater.
Interesting decision not to gamble on the last nums by Lawrie...even if you aren't a strong numbers player it's surely in your best interests to gamble. Was surprised they both didn't get 897 though, though it must be hard in the studio.
