One thing I there's consensus on is how shit red delicious are. I've never known anybody deliberately buy one to eat from the shop. The only time you ever see them eaten is in offices / hotels etc where there is free fruit and everything else has been taken.

I've not played it online, but I reckon it must lose a big dimension of the game. For me the personal interaction, persuasion and deception (not talking about breaking rules, but about throwing attention away from yourself) are all good parts of the game.

It might be possible that dictionary.com introduce a feature to filter based on "English" or they might just do a good job of specifying in the definitions of something is English or not.

I'd be interested to know the split between people who play at co events by looking at the tiles vs those who wrote the selection down and play from their handwriting?

Personally I find looking at the tiles incredibly difficult so I always write down letters and numbers.

By that measure, the "least likely" nine ever to have been spotted on Countdown was MYOGLOBIN by Michael Calder in the series 42 final. I don't have a way to generate all possible nines. Made all the more impressive by the much more obvious BOOMINGLY (which is invalid) not being declared.

I wouldn't make this change now. But if the show was starting up from scratch I would change the numbers scoring.

10pts - 1pt per 1 away from target
Also if it's impossible to be within 10, you get 5 pts for being closer than your opponent anyway.

A couple of milestones: The 10000th high score was submitted to the leaderboard about 3 weeks ago.
