Yeah, that kind of thing always staggers me. I think there was a bit in the parkrun news once about a 100,000m runner, and they ran each of their twenty consecutive 5k's comfortably faster than I can do one :(

I always catch the last 10 minutes or so of the morning repeat and those last 10 minutes were pretty awkward viewing seeing the challenger not add to her score at all. And then her comment of "I just want to go home", despite bringing a sympathetic laugh from the audience, was painfully honest. But...
