Re: Rachel v Carol
I have been thinking recently how Rachel has really found her feet now, not just in the actual maths but in terms of being relaxed and her personality shining through now. (Back after a long silence!) I agree. Rachel's self-confidence has really come to the fore now, and I've been quite taken aback...

Re: Obscenity democracy
In the words of the BBC, "Have Your Say." Joseph I voted for option 2, so I'm in the vast majority. I prefer not to see obscenities or expletives in written communications because they rarely add anything useful to what the poster has to say, and I wouldn't encourage them but nor would I ...

Re: Dictionary Corner Guests
My ex-GF told me he practised in her home town, which is midway between Bath and Bristol, has 8 letters, and was also the title of an album by the Bonzo Dog Band. Here's your 30 seconds: ding-diggle-iggle-iggle-ing diggle-iggle-iggle-ing... Keynsham. Got it in 2 seconds. Google even gets you the ad...

Re: Dictionary Corner Guests
(Talking of poets- NO MORE PAM AYRES - Pleeeeasseeee!! ;) I love Pam Ayres, but I could do without Richard Digance. Or could we perhaps agree on Wendy Cope? I'm with Rosemary on this one. I like Pam Ayres, but Richard Digance has me reaching for the fast-forward button, especially when he reads out...

Re: Dictionary Corner Guests
Phil Hammond appears w/c 2 March. Although calling him a GP is a bit generous, he hasn't undertaken any serious practice for about ten years and mainly works as a humourist. According to the biography on his agent's website , he "currently works as a part time GP in the Bristol area", alt...

Re: Spoilers & Comments, Tuesday 24/02/2009
Another "me too". I was only thinking this morning how very natural both presenters are. I'm in total agreement with earlier comments about how Jeff talks with the contestants, bringing in very appropriate comments about them during the programme, rather than just during the introductions...

Re: Spoilers for Friday 30th January (CofC XIII GF)
Not really- the series final is something that's been worked towards for six months (as said at the beginning of each one, 2000 applied, 120 entered, now we have 2). A c of c, on the other hand, whilst immensely prestigious, is an invitational tournament lasting three weeks. Ah, I see. I didn't rea...

Re: Spoilers for Friday 30th January (CofC XIII GF)
Well done Steve and Charlie for an excellent game. Pity there wasn't a presentation of some description. I was surprised about this too. Given that a CoC final is surely a 'bigger' event than a series final, I'd have expected some kind of reasonably grand presentation. It seems to me that everythin...

Re: Spoilers for Friday 30th January (CofC XIII GF)
Felt a bit sorry for Rachel today - after looking up solutions for the numbers (was surprised neither player got 831 as outlined above - my first thought was 52*16) they look like pretty hard ones. Rachel seems only to have worked out one or two since she started: she either hasn't had to (unsurpri...

Re: Spoilers for Friday 12th December *Final*
I thought it was a bit sad that Carol V didn't get to say all she seemed to want to and broke down at the end. I was expecting quite a long piece to camera summing up her 26 years on the show. .... Ah! Well, of course I forgot about the immediately preceding show on C4 (just watched the recording),...

I thought it was a bit sad that Carol V didn't get to say all she seemed to want to and broke down at the end. I was expecting quite a long piece to camera summing up her 26 years on the show. I thought they cut to the credits a little too quickly too, or did Carol lose it completely and wanted it e...

Re: New Host
I'm a bit late in this thread, but I have to say that I'll be very pleased with a new set to go with the new hosts. I never found that loud pink background at all easy on the eye.
I wonder what Carol Vorderman will do post-Countdown? I guess she'll have a nice long holiday first.

Re: New Host
I agree with the general consensus that Jeff Stelling would be a good host. I've only ever seen him a couple of times on Sky Sports but he seems to fit the criteria. I wonder if there'll be a revamp of the set to launch the new era as well. :?: Yes, brand new set. New chairs, new cue cards, new tit...

Re: Have I Got News For You
I thought that the references to Countdown were fairly light-hearted. As Alexander Armstrong didn't say he wasn't going to be the Countdown host, I hope that means that he is. :) If AA does take the job, I do wonder how long he would last. It doesn't strike me as a particularly challenging job, wit...

Hello from the wilds of East Sussex
Hello from a newbie... strangely enough I've only been a regular Countdown viewer since Richard Whiteley passed away, but I now watch a recording almost every day with my early evening cuppa after getting home from work. Hobbies: flat-green bowls (outdoor and indoor), astronomy, motorcycling, not ke...
