Re: The C4C Football Thread

As a West Ham fan, this was the day we were all dreading at Christmas . . . . end of transfer window; middle of relegation battle; Bellamy, Green, Upson, Collins all gone to Man City or the Spuds; and Shef U demanding £65m and another million everytime they think of something else in life they dont ...

Re: Claims to Fame

Can I claim the record for the only person to lose on Countdown on successive shows? Lost the final of series 41, and this was immediately followed by losing my first round match in the subsequent CofC.

2 defeats in 2 days?! Shome record shurely?

Re: Countdown LOST - AGAIN!

Kai Back in the mid-late 90's they did a series called the 'Countdown Supreme Champion' (or something like that). They invited back the top 2 players from the first 32 series (excluding CofC's) and had a knock out tournament of the best 64. I keep wondering whether they might do a similar thing by t...

Oi - does this imply non-believers don't care? That's a bit harsh.
No, sorry, Kirk, certainly didnt mean to imply that. Simply arguing that someone shouldn't be regarded as being 'sad' simply because they have the guts to make a principled stand about something they believe in.

Re: Fan mail and recognition

After my appearances, I had a lovely letter from a lady who said she had got a nephew called Simon Cooper who she hadn't seen for 20 years. From her memory, she thought I looked very much like him, and she gave me details of all sorts of dates, family background etc etc. I felt really mean writing b...

Re: Spoilers for Friday 12th December *Final*

I personally would have preferred the runner-up prize of £1,000 rather than the books. Interesting point. Back in Series 41 final in 1999, (when runners up prize was only £500  )I was talking about the prizes beforehand with Scott Mearns - he was a student and said he'd prefer the cash to the ...

Re: RIP Michael Wylie

Very sad news and want to add my condolences. Vague memories only, but I recall back in 1999 how he would pop down from the production room between shows, and offer a cheery and encouraging word to everyone. A very sad loss to the programme.

When I saw the show today, Charlie, I was trying to guess just how much they had to edit out! I suspect there were more off camera comments that weren't shown?

Careful Editing of Countdown

Following on from today's show (great game, guys!), and Charlie's 'bleeped' word, wondered whether there were any other great 'Countdown edits' that people had experienced? Back in 1999 in my game against Gary Woodward, Gary declared the word 'GENITALS' which I managed to trump with 'GELATINES'. Ric...

Re: Welcome! - Post here first

Hi guys, Just found this forum, looks really interesting. In the dim and distant past (well, 1999) I got to the final of series 41 before losing to Scott Mearns on Christmas Day. Still have wonderful memories of the whole thing and some of the people I met . .. been looking to see if any of them are...
