Re: Fixed-width fonts
I suggest something like I did for Stuart's recap; "[Year Month Date]" first, followed by anything else the individual recapper feels is relevant (some people put the series and episode number, etc.) Actually convincing recappers to do this might be trickier.

"What is COLIN?" and other questions
This is the forum for discussion of all the unofficial Countdown events that take place. There are several real-life tournaments each year, the most venerable of which is COLIN (Countdown in Lincoln) which has run every January since 2005. There is also COBRIS (Bristol in the summer) and CORED (Redc...

Re: Favourite discipline
My brother came up with a good idea today, what about a numbers conundrum where you buzz when you think you have it? That sounds similar to Jon Stitcher Cheaty Countdown, which is a variant invented by the eponymous Stitcher, in which you can declare any number of times as the round goes on, and mu...

You asked me at Colin to investigate whether phpBB would allow fixed-width fonts. It doesn't, although suitable extensions may exist, so I thought I'd try to gauge whether anyone actually wants to read in fixed-width before spending time finding and installing such a thing. Wanted: Person with a NODE
Does anyone have a NODE (the version of the dictionary used circa 2002)? I'm looking for someone to check some words from the recaps for that period. If you have a NODE but no inclination to use it, I'm also willing to buy them for some suitable fee.

You can see me in action in the final of the COOT Plate (a kind of repechage competition for people who are a bit rubbish.) Your comparison to McMicrosoft is straight from the Zef book of ridiculous overstatement. I think it's fair to say that most contestants and, more importantly, most people playing along at home prefer the letters rounds, so anything which decreased them would be fairly unpopular. I might be wrong about that. Let's have a poll.

I think Jono's octochamp run proves that if you can nail your opponent on the numbers then you can afford to make shit up in about half of the letters rounds and still win comfortably.

I don't think it's a spoiler anyway, it just lets you concentrate on the other 8 letters - a bit like having an 8-letter selection, which makes for a bit of variety. For example, see Round 8 of this game, where the Q probably made things more exciting.

The average number of legs is a bit less than 2, given that a small number of people have no legs or only one leg, while barely anyone has more than 2 legs. So the probability that you see someone with more than the mean number (e.g. two) is, well, close to 1 I'd say.
