Re: Best 9 of all time

Following yesterday's show, would it be mean to start a "most glaring 9 missed ever" category? (I know it's far harder when you're in front of the cameras and the champion got her 9 later and still got an excellent total score.)

Re: Best 9 of all time

At that time there were fewer young contestants (though I suspect a higher proportion of women). Down to earth may not be the right word but Maria didn't exactly come across as posh!!!!

Re: Best 9 of all time

Very impressive at the time, especially as it was Maria Boyes' first game and she didn't fit the identikit Countdown champion being young, female and down to earth

Re: COREA16 - Saturday 26th March 2016

The news improves slightly - no Hermanns either! Because Easter is early this year, the 'Easter' holidays are after Easter - so I won't be in Reading as usual! Sadly, the inaugural winner of the Fighting Spirit award, Oliver Hermann, won't be able to defend his title because of 'A' Level revision (a...

How many other contestants apart from myself have recorded regular games (not specials) in both the 1900s and 2000s? (I recorded the last series 42 game in 1999 and the first three in 2000.)

My Mum has just told me about the XN magazine article and reminded me. I am sad to say that last year's Fighting Spirit winner, my son Ollie, will not be defending his title, but that leaves the way open for me to inherit it.... I'll be there.

Re: Coincidence

As I remember it the letter to the Torygraph was about a mathematical query - can't remember what - and the reason I thought Jon's answer was wrong and replied was that there was a misprint in his letter. We broke up about a year later after he left University and went to live in Devon.

Not sure I really understand what you mean here. You put your opponent off by mistake? Afterwards watching the show I thought a couple of times in the program my manner ...

Can confirm that the 75x table contestant did not get far. What would people's views be of the following though:- 1. writing 2 dodgy words down, choosing which one to declare and then changing your mind as your opponent declares the other one and you are ahead (In fact both words were fine so it did...

The depressing thing is that my son (now in Year 7 at one of the country's few remaining state grammar schools, and who got practically full marks in the year 6 SATS for Maths) included the following startling facts in his maths homework.... 1. 2.3x1.2 =(2x1) + (0.3x0.2) =2.06 2. 1/2 divided by 1/4 ...

(Phrasing this to avoid tedious discussions about when the new millennium began) I am the only person to be reigning champion in years beginning 19... and 20....
